The scale of the Informatics sector in Turkey’s 95 billion TL
Informatics Industry Association (TUBISAD) announced "2016 market data of the Information and Communication Sector". Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) Chairman Dr. Omer Fatih Sayan and TUBISAD Chairman Kubra Erman Karaca made the opening speech in the meeting. President of TUBISAD information center commission Levent Kiziltan and project consultant and partner of Deloitte Turkey Tolga Yaveroglu presented statements about the activity. Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) Chairman Dr. Omer Fatih Sayan, who made the opening statement via video teleconferencing, stated that the Informatics sector is in a central position that affect the development of the other sectors and thanked to TUBISAD and its shareholders who prepared the report. Sayan emphasized that the development of the informatics sector will have much more importance in the future and said that many efforts have been made to make Turkey a country that produce and develop technologies in this area. He also said that "development of the Information and Communication Technologies including telecommunication sector makes multiplier effect on the economy. I think that we are going to be in a leading position developing not only the market but also these technologies, as a producer person, institution and state."
TUBISAD Chairman of the Board Kubra Erman Karaca, who made the opening statement of the meeting stated that "Information and Communication Technologies Sector Data" work becomes more and more important every year and made evaluation about the sector. According to Karaca, though many adverse events, such as a coup attempt, terrorist attacks and suspension of the major projects of some public and private companies occurred in 2016, the information and communication technologies sector continues its double digit growth. She also said that:
"2016 was a year when the institutions talked about the digital transformation strategies and planed them in order not to fall behind the developing technology and the present competition in the world of information. 2017 will be a year when these institutions are going to put these strategies into practice and take much more concrete steps. Digital transformation is going to be effective in value-added products, mobile products and also in any product that concerns human lives in any point of the technology. So, both software developers or service providers and hardware suppliers are going to play a crucial role."
She also stated that the informatics sector that keeps its double digit development speed deserves the importance attributed to it with its multiplier effect on the economy. The partner of Deloitte Tolga Yaveroglu stated that the growth of 14% in the market in spite of the last arduous year. He also added that "We see that an important part of the growth comes from the Communication Technologies sector, with the effect of 4.5G tender. The share of the software in the Informatics Technologies sector keeps its development. We expect that the sector exportation that increased 32 % last year will develop in the upcoming period together with the value losses in TL and programs encouraging the export such as Turquality that includes our sector. Also, we should solve the problem of qualified workforce need, one of the biggest obstacles in the sustainability of the growth."

- Total sectorial scale of the Informatics Technologies reached 94.3 billion TL in 2016, with a growth of 14.4 %.
- As two main elements of the total sectorial scale, information technologies reached 29.6 billion TL with an 11 % growth and communication technologies reached 64.7 billion TL with a 16 % growth.
- In the sub-categories of the information technologies sector that reached the growth of 29.6 billion TL, hardware sales reached 12.9 billion TL and software sales reached 11.9 billion TL and service sales reached 4.8 billion TL in 2016.
- The highest growth rate in the information technologies category occurred in the software category with a rate of 16.3 %, as compared with the last year. With a 14 % growth service sector and with a 5.1 % growth hardware sector followed the software sector.
- Communication technologies sector had the scale of 64.7 billion TL in 2016. In the sub¬categories, hardware sales reached 19.3 billion TL and electronic communication sales reached 45.4 billion TL.
- The indigenousness rate of the information technologies service category reached 86 % and software category reached 60 %, in 2016.
- Total exportation in the sector reached 3.1 billion TL by increasing 32 % as compared with the last year. 2.041 TL of the total exportation came from the software. Software exportation grew 41 % as compared with the last year. 14 (3/0 of the turnover gained from the software comes from the exportation. The largest scale of exports was made to Middle East and Africa with 56 % and to Europe with 20 ok.
- Despite the size that sector displayed in different areas on TL basis, there has not been an increase in the employment reflecting this, in 2016. This situation is interpreted as a sign that companies are paying attention to productivity.
