The market size of Turkey's Information and Communication Technologies sector reached 409 billion Turkish Liras in 2022.
TUBISAD has released "Information and Communication Technologies Sector 2022 Market Data and Trends". According to the report, the sector grew by 54% compared to the previous year, reaching a volume of 409 billion Turkish Liras. The sector also achieved exports worth 28.6 billion Turkish Liras, and employment within the sector increased to 213,000 people.
The Informatics Industry Association (TUBISAD) presented the "Information and Communication Technology Sector Market Data and Trends for 2022" during a meeting held on May 12th at the Microsoft Turkey office. Opening remarks were delivered by TUBİIAD President Levent Kızıltan, Microsoft Turkey General Manager Levent Özbilgin, Data Market CEO Murat Boyla, and Logo Software Channel Sales Director Altuğ Özmen. The meeting provided insights into the sector's performance and future for 2022, with Deloitte Turkey Partner Hakan Göl presenting the report's findings.
In the report, it was mentioned that a total of 9121 companies participated in the study in 2022. According to the report, the size of Turkey's Information and Communication Technology market grew by 54% in Turkish Lira compared to the previous year, reaching 409 billion Turkish Liras. A significant portion of this increase, about 14 billion Turkish Liras, was contributed by newly added companies. The annual growth rate was observed to be significantly higher compared to previous years. Survey participants also had growth expectations of over 10% in Turkish Lira for the year 2023, which was in line with the previous year. However, due to the increasing currency rates, the sector's growth in US Dollars decreased from 29.9 billion dollars to 24.7 billion dollars.
Subcategories
One of the two main components that make up the total sector size, Information Technologies, grew by 70% to reach 195 billion Turkish Liras, constituting 48% of the market in 2022. Communication Technologies, on the other hand, reached 213.9 billion Turkish Liras with a growth rate of 41%, making up 52% of the total market. Compared to the distribution in the previous year, Information Technologies increased its weight within the total market, gaining a new share of 5%.
Within the Information Technologies sector, the IT Hardware category increased by 93.5% to reach 84.2 billion Turkish Liras, while IT Software grew by 57% to reach 80 billion Turkish Liras. IT Services also saw a growth of 54% and reached 30.8 billion Turkish Liras.

According to the report, the technologies shaping the Information and Communication Technologies sector in 2022 were categorized into four main headings: artificial intelligence, cloud computing, automation, and environmentally conscious technologies designed and produced with sustainability in mind.

According to the TUBISAD report, the global Information and Communication market size grew by 3.3% in 2022, reaching a level of 4.4 trillion dollars. A significant portion of this growth was attributed to the Information Technologies market, which expanded by 9.3% compared to the previous year, while the Communication Technologies market experienced a contraction of 3.8%.
Technological Development Zones
According to statistics published by the Ministry of Industry and Technology, between 2021 and 2022, the number of Technoparks (Technological Development Zones) increased to 97, and the number of companies within these technoparks increased by 16% to reach around 9000. The number of individuals employed in technology development zones also saw a 17% increase, rising from approximately 80,000 to 93,000. The total revenue generated by these technoparks increased by 46%, growing from 51.8 billion Turkish Liras to 75.6 billion Turkish Liras. With this increase in revenue, total exports also grew by 50%, from 13.3 billion Turkish Liras to 19.9 billion Turkish Liras.
Export
The report revealed that the largest share of total exports was in the Information Technologies Software category. IT Software grew by 61%, reaching approximately 24 billion Turkish Liras. The sector's total exports grew at an annual average rate of approximately 10% in US dollars between 2018 and 2022.
Employment:
The total employment in the sector reached 213000, showing a growth of 15%. Approximately 22% of the sector's labor force is composed of female employees, while university graduates make up 49% of the labor force.
