"E-commerce is also a sub-sector that creates new jobs. When e-commerce is considered as a domestic as well as international potential, the development of this sector must be addressed as a priority. The effect of e-commerce on different sectors, benefits to disadvantaged groups, labor and employment contribution, the impact on the overall functioning of the trade and increasing the total trade capacity forced both the 9th development plan and information society strategy. The size of the domestic market of Turkey and the high young population along with the increasing per capita consumption expenditure put Turkey among the countries that to invest in electronic commerce. For these investments to be sustainable and continue at an increasing rate, creating a clear and predictable regulatory environment is now an obligation. For the development of e-commerce in particular, we need a sound legal basis."

TUBISAD Board Member, New Media and E-Commerce Commission President Burak Erta5 emphasized on that despite the rapid growth in Turkey's e-commerce market, the ratio of the e-commerce in the total retail market is only 2% and the growth potential in this area is very high.
